Practice information
Therapeutic process & payment terms
Please read these terms carefully before your first session. They set out our shared responsibilities and how your information is protected.
Sessions & fees
Therapy sessions are 50 minutes.
Fees follow the rates of the Board of Health Funders (BOHF) and the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA).
Private rate: R1,300.00 per session. Medical aid rates differ and are scheme-dependent — please check your scheme.
Private accounts (including hospital plans) are payable on the day of consultation. Failure to do so will result in medical aid rates being charged.
If your medical aid rejects the claim, the person responsible for the account becomes liable for any outstanding fees.
School visits, telephonic consultations, and email communications with parents, teachers, or other therapists are charged at the recommended BOHF / HPCSA rates.
Medical aid claim terms are strictly 30 days. Outstanding accounts incur interest at the legally prescribed rate from due date to date of receipt.
Failure to pay accounts may result in legal action — costs claimable on an attorney-and-own-client scale.
Cancellations
Full fees apply for appointments not cancelled at least 24 hours before the session.
Please WhatsApp or email cancellations / changes — see contact details below.
Prescribed Minimum Benefits (PMBs) cannot be used to cover missed appointments.
Reports
Reports are drawn up only on request and are charged accordingly. Please discuss this during the initial meeting. A minimum 14-day turnaround applies, and reports are released only once the account has been settled in full.
Confidentiality
All information about you is treated as confidential and will not be disclosed without your consent. In limited situations, legal or professional rules may compel disclosure:
Emergency situations — where there is a risk of serious harm to yourself or others, the practitioner is compelled to take the steps necessary to prevent harm, even if this means breaching confidentiality.
Statutory duty — for example, disclosure of suspected child sexual abuse. Done only in consultation with you.
Court orders — a court may compel disclosure. This is rare.
For clients under the age of 18, parents or guardians are kept informed of the therapeutic process in general terms, but the content of sessions remains private to the child as a general rule. Exceptions apply where there is a risk of harm or evidence of criminal behaviour.
Medical aid schemes require a diagnosis before they will pay an account. If you refuse to allow your scheme to be furnished with the required information, they may refuse to pay on your behalf.
Assessment & therapy
An assessment is conducted in the first session (or, for children, in an initial parent interview). The Professional Board for Psychology requires that the psychologist contact, or attempt to contact, both divorced parents before seeing a child.
Psychotherapy is a collaborative process aimed at increasing self-understanding and building effective coping strategies. It may involve discussing sensitive material and can at times feel emotionally challenging. While therapy is often beneficial, outcomes cannot be guaranteed and progress depends in part on your active engagement.
Termination
Either you or the practitioner may terminate therapy at any stage. Termination by the practitioner happens only in consultation with you and in a professionally accountable way.
POPIA & your information
By completing the intake form and signing it electronically, you consent to the processing of your personal information under the Protection of Personal Information Act, No. 4 of 2013, for the following purposes:
Treating and managing you in a psychologist-patient relationship.
Administering the contractual relationship between you and the practice.
Communicating with other persons in relation to your treatment.
Communicating with medical scheme administrators or other third parties who indemnify you for treatment costs.
Collecting monies owed to the practice.
Your information is held securely and accessed only by the practitioner and authorised personnel. Every access is logged.
Disputes & queries
If a dispute arises regarding the service or any charges, please contact the practitioner directly in the first instance.
